Drivers queue as some filling stations run out of fuel
08/04/2022
Only a small number of local suppliers have diesel
Drivers have been hunting down fuel supplies after a number of local filling stations ran out of stocks of diesel. Petrol supplies have also been drained on some forecourts.
By Friday lunchtime delays had built on the A361 in Bloxham after word spread that Esso MFG had diesel. Meanwhile long queues formed to enter and exit Sainsbury’s on the Oxford Road in Banbury as people heard that the filling station had received fresh supplies.
At Tesco on Ruscote Avenue no petrol or diesel was available. A member of staff told Banbury FM that diesel had run out yesterday and unleaded petrol this morning. The Shell Station on Upper Windsor Street was also unable to supply diesel or unleaded petrol.
At Morrisons on Cherwell Street, Texaco on the Warwick Road and the Bodicote Service Station diesel pumps were marked as “out of use”.
In Brackley Tesco today has “no diesel” signs in place for a second day.
A member of staff at Sainsbury’s in Banbury who was endeavouring to keep traffic flowing told Banbury FM they had received a tanker delivery this morning and “word must have spread”. They receive deliveries on a daily basis.
The shortages have been caused by climate protests blocking major fuel depots, on top of supply issues due to increased post-Covid lockdown demand and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Climate activism groups Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion are blocking key terminals across the country to protest the environmental effects of oil and gas.

I need to go to work but can’t find any diesel. The protesters obviously don’t have any jobs to go to or they filled up before going to stop the fuel leaving the depot . They must have got there somehow .
