Warriner PE Department pick up national award
13/06/2024
Praise for team who pride themselves on promoting a love of physical activity
The Warriner School’s PE Department has been named as an award winner at the 2024 Education Business Awards. They picked up the School Sports Award at a ceremony on Wednesday at the Leonardo Royal hotel in London, close to St Paul’s Cathedral.
The awards shine a light on the outstanding achievements of schools and academies across the UK.
The Warriner PE Department was noted by judges as priding itself on promoting a love of physical activity. The school is part of the highly successful North Oxon School Sports Partnership, which links over 1,000 Year 1-6 students from eight primary schools.
In 2022-2023 fourteen festivals were organised ranging from tag rugby and girls’ football, to pickleball, sports hall athletics and multi-skills festivals in netball. All of these were inclusive of children with special educational needs and disabilities, with mixed teams throughout.
The school achieved the Silver School Games mark last year and aims for Gold this year.
Warriner’s Head of PE Hannah MacLachlan said: “This is a nationally recognised award which is awarded to the educational establishment in the UK that demonstrates an outstanding commitment to developing the sporting skills of its students through provisions of its curriculum. We were one of four schools shortlisted.
“Across the 21 categories The Warriner School were the only school representing Oxfordshire.
“The PE Department are extremely proud of this amazing achievement and thank The Warriner School for their continued support.”
Head of School, Sharon Nicholls, told Banbury FM: “I couldn’t be prouder of our PE Department – every single PE colleague delivers a PE curriculum which is one of high quality, ambitious in breadth and superbly inclusive.
“So many of our students, of all abilities, totally appreciate the work of their PE teachers, who also go above and beyond by selflessly giving their own time, evening after evening, weekend after weekend, to run an amazing range of sporting fixtures – from football, rugby, athletics, cricket to pickleball and more!
“Congratulations Warriner’s Team PE!”
