Chiltern Railways announces investment station improvements

Commuters heading to Banbury Train Station will soon see work begin to introduce a number of improvements.

Chiltern Railways has announced they plan to create new male, female and accessible toilets in the lower ticket hall.

The café and overbridge area will also be upgraded.   A new Costa Coffee unit will open, with seating for up to 50 people.

The station will undergo a full internal repaint early in 2025.

For staff new colleague accommodation will be created on the west side of the station to provide facilities for train drivers located at the Banbury Depot.

In preparation for the first stage of improvements a deep clean for the stations has been completed over the past three months.

The announcement of internal improvements come as Oxfordshire County Council progresses its project to create a new access and public transport route from Tramway Road to the station.

Giles Conway, Area Manager for Oxfordshire at Chiltern Railways said: “Banbury is a key commuter and leisure hub on the Chiltern Railways network and we are delighted to announce investment plans to improve the station’s customer facilities in the coming year.

“We are working alongside Oxfordshire County Council, Cherwell District Council, Caterleisure and community partners to make the station a warm and welcoming environment for rail users. These projects form part of a wider masterplan which will improve customer facilities at Banbury and better connect the station with key businesses and attractions in the town centre.”
