Deadline day for registering to vote
14/04/2022
District Council elections take place on May 5, but all the Parish Council polls are uncontested
The deadline to be registered to vote in May’s Local Elections is today. Anyone wishing to make their voice heard as to who represents them on the District Council needs to ensure they are included on the electoral role before midnight. The vote will take place on May 5.
But whilst voters will have their say on who will be their Cherwell District Council representative, no vote will be needed for any Parish Council in the Cherwell district as in all cases less people stood for election than the number of seats that are available. Thirty-one parish council elections had been scheduled to take place.
Yvonne Rees, Chief Executive at Cherwell District Council and the Returning Officer, said: “The district council election is a chance for you to have your say on who is in charge of essential public services like waste collection, environmental health and leisure centres.
“If you have not already registered at your current address, have recently turned 18 or changed your name, make sure to register before midnight on 14 April to have your say.”
Those who are already registered at their current address do not need to re-register.
A third of the seats on Cherwell District Council will be up for election on Thursday May 5.
Anyone needing to register to vote can do so here.
