There’s a burst water main in the same area
A number of properties on the Hardwick estate in Banbury are without gas this evening after water entered the supply pipes.
Southern Gas Networks have been visiting homes on Longelandes Way isolating their supplies.
By 8.30pm around 100 properties had been switched off. Engineers will continue visiting homes to turn off gas supplies at the meter for safety reasons.
Engineers from Thames Water are in the same area due to a burst water main and its believed the two problems are linked.
Work has begun to establish the extent of the damage to the gas betwirj and remove the water from the gas pipes. It is unclear how long this will take.
Engineers will return to the affected properties to turn their gas back on and carry out checks once the problem has been resolved.
For the elderly, disabled, chronically sick and those who have young children or other special needs, Southern Gas Networks will provide portable electric appliances for cooking and heating. Anyone who requires these should call their 24-hour Customer Service team on 0800 912 1717.
It is anticipated that engineers will be working through the night, with further updates expected on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile engineers from Thames Water are repairing a burst water main in Hearthway. Properties in the area may be experiencing low pressure or no water.
They warn it is a difficult repair, which means it is taking them longer than normal but added: “our team are working hard to get this done as quickly as they can”.
