Just 46 Banbury homes out of 700 still await gas reconnection
08/07/2024
Customers are thanked for their on-going support and understanding
Southern Gas Networks has now reconnected the gas supplies to over 650 homes which were affected by flood water entering the gas network in the Hardwick area of Banbury on Saturday June 29.
In today’s latest update they say gas is now available in most locations but water in the service pipes and metres at 46 homes in Evenlode and Windrush is yet to be sorted. It’s essential that engineers can gain access to these properties to remove the water and carry out safety checks.
A Southern Gas Networks spokesperson said: “We would once again like to say a heart-felt thank you to all of those who have been affected by this emergency for your on-going support and understanding.”
Those affected by the issue will receive compensation for the time they were without a gas supply, as agreed with the energy regulator Ofgem. Compensation will be paid at the rate of £70 per household for each complete 24-hour period they had no gas. This will be paid through the household’s gas supplied and will appear as a credit on their bill.
