Thousands of people will make the fields around Cropredy their home for the next few days

The gates are open and the festival is underway!

Fairport’s Cropredy Convention is up and running, with the first campers heading onto the site at 7 o’clock this morning.

Thousands of people will make the fields around Cropredy their home for the next few days, with many local businesses and organisations benefitting from the influx of visitors.

Known as the friendly festival, today’s headliners are Rick Wakeman and “Amarillo” legend Tony Christie.    Fairport Convention will be performing an acoustic set.

The performances began at 4.

Alongside the main festival, Cropredy village has a number of other venues providing entertainment for villagers and visitors alike.

Live music is available at the Brasenose Arms and the canal side Saucy Hound, with the Red Lion also playing host to more bands.

The Cream of the Crop in the festival’s former field 8 – which is now a private campsite at The Old Dairy Farm – has performances through the weekend.

And alongside the music the Friends of Cropredy Primary School will be raising money by encouraging people to follow their scarecrow trail around the village.
