13 weeks of timetable reductions begin on CrossCountry tomorrow
09/08/2024
At the end of the temporary timetable more trained drivers should be available
CrossCountry trains will be introducing reductions to its timetable for the next 13 weeks whilst performance and reliability issues are addressed.
The company says industrial action across the rail industry has meant it hasn’t been possible to deal with the backlog of critical training days required by train drivers, which accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
CrossCountry provides train services from Banbury, north to Manchester and south to Bournemouth.
The timetable reductions begin tomorrow and run until November 9. The operator says this will address performance and reliability issues and should reduce on-the-day cancellations.
By the end of the temporary timetable, Cross Country will have more fully-trained drivers able to work across the network.
Bethan Jelfs, CrossCountry’s Regional Director for West and Wales, said: “Removing services from our timetable is always a last resort. I’m sorry for the inconvenience this will cause for our customers and I want to thank them for their patience while these changes are in place.
“This is a difficult decision, but by taking proactive action now we are investing in building a more resilient and dependable service for CrossCountry customers for the future.”
