The thought of what could have happened to her 8-month-old son brought Louise to tears
A Banbury mum has been left upset and shaken after youths threw a brick at her car, smashing her windscreen, whilst she was driving on the M40.
Louise Truby says her life flashed before her eyes at the time and she hasn’t been able to get in her car since.
Even worse the sight of her eight-month-old child’s baby seat covered in glass brought her to tears with the thought of what could have happened if her children had been in the vehicle.
Louise had been working in Stratford and was on her way home last Thursday (August 8) at around 7.15pm.
She was in the left hand lane approaching junction 11 when she spotted youngsters on the edge of the motorway, close to Banbury Country Park. As she saw them a brick was hurled at her vehicle, smashing the windscreen and showering slithers of glass everywhere.
Thankfully Louise managed to maintain control of the car. She was too frightened to stop immediately knowing she would be close to the youngsters.
Louise, who only passed her driving test in March said: “I saw my life flash before my eyes.”
After leaving the motorway a distraught Louise found a safe place to park and called her boyfriend.
Since the incident Louise hasn’t got in her car. She said: “I don’t know if I can or when I will be able to. That’s quite hard because on Thursdays I work in Stratford. It probably will have an effect. Right now I’m just not ready.”
It was the morning after the incident it dawned on Louise how much worse the situation could have been. “My 8-month-old’s car seat was covered in fractions of grass and that brought me to tears when I pulled it out and saw it,” she said. “If he had been in the seat to think what could have happened to him?
“I usually have someone in my passenger seat as well. When I got out I thought ‘Oh my God’ – if someone had been in that passenger seat it would have been bad for them.”
Louise reported the incident to the police and is hoping the youngsters involved will be dealt with.
She had a message for their parents: “If they are your kids – you need to know where they are and you need to teach them right from wrong.
“At the age of these kids they should know right from wrong. I think it’s just not caring that’s led them to do something like this.”
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson told Banbury FM: “We are investigating a criminal damage incident on the M40 southbound near junction 11 for Banbury at around 8.15pm on Thursday (August 8).
“Anyone with information should call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43240380268.”
