Bowling club’s new season plans thrown in the air

The club is out of pocket having produced marketing materials which are now of no use

Members of the Banbury Cross Indoor Bowling Club have expressed their disappointment at being told they won’t be able to use the Woodgreen Leisure Centre hall for the planned start of their new season.

The club had expected to move back into the hall on September 16 with an open day scheduled for September 28.

Last week the club received a communication from Cherwell District Council informing them the Mill Arts Centre’s use of the space was being extended to the end of September.

Its understood the club’s Chairman, Andy Winter, had requested updates on the situation from both the council and the leisure centre’s management over recent months, but without any concrete response.

In a note to members Mr Winter expressed “disappointed not to have been included in the decision making, only being informed after the event”.

The club is now waiting to find out if the council will reimburse the costs for printing marketing materials for the new season, which now contains incorrect dates.

Banbury Cross Indoor Bowling Club’s Marketing Officer, Harry Barrett, said: “Following our meeting on Friday, everybody on the committee – to say the least – are very upset and disappointed.   We’ve had the rug pulled from under our feet at the eleventh hour, without any prior consultation or information being forthcoming from either parties.

“It means a complete rerun on our advertising material that we have already got printed. We’ve got to relook at our league schedule and our programme, because we’re probably going to have to reschedule that.”

Banbury Cross Indoor Bowling Club was established in 1956 and has used the indoor hall at the Woodgreen Leisure Centre for a number of recent years.   During their season bowling takes place seven days a week.
