Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announces her plans to deal with illegal immigration
An immigration centre in the Cherwell District looks set to reopen as the Labour government presses ahead with its plans to deal with illegal immigration.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has announced that 100 additional new specialist officers and investigators are being recruited to boost Britain’s border security. She said there would be a major increase in returns of those with no right to be in the UK.
Its reported that the plans will see Campsfield House on the northern side of Kidlington being reopened. It closed in 2019 following years of problems including hunger strikes, self-harm and suicides.
In 2022, the then Conservative government said it would re-open Campsfield House but there was strong local opposition to the plans.
Official government figures show that 827 people have arrived by small boat crossings in the last week.
