Its the biggest Sealed Knot re-enactment of the year
The sights, sounds and smells of an influential battle in the English Civil War will be brought back this weekend.
The Battle of Cropredy Bridge was fought on Saturday June 29, 1644. Around 10,000 soldiers on each side battled at the bridge and in the surrounding fields with Sir William Waller’s parliamentarians face to face with King Charles royalists.
The poor outcome for the Parliamentary forces ultimately led to a radical rethink and the establishment of the New Model Army. The impact on the local community was devastating.
On Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday civil war re-enactors from all over the country will be heading to those same fields for the biggest Sealed Knot re-enactment of the year.
Up to 3000 combatants are expected, including Drummers, Flags, Pikemen, Musketeers, Cavalry and Canon. A living history village on the edge of the battlefield will enable people to see many aspects of everyday life in the 17th century including a wide range of trades relevant to both village and military campaign life.
The living history area and demonstrations will begin at 11am on both days with re-enactments starting at 12.30pm and the main battle at 2pm. Entry ticket prices will apply.
