Each mission costs £3,600

Last year the Thames Valley air ambulance was called out 3,293 times to help people in need of urgent critical care.   Locally, during August the air ambulance attended 11 separate incidents in the Banbury area.

This week is Air Ambulance Week and we’re being reminded air ambulances are charities which receive no government funding – their teams and vehicles are funded purely from charitable donations.

The flight time between the air ambulance’s base at RAF Benson and anywhere in their area of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, or Oxfordshire is just 15 minutes.   This means a specialist team of doctors and critical care paramedics, with state-of-the-art technology and advanced medication, can be with a patient much faster than via road routes.   They are able to deliver the same level of care you would expect from a hospital emergency department.

Each time the air ambulance helicopter is sent out on a mission costs £3,600.
