Driver loses life in Easter Saturday M40 crash
17/04/2022
The M40 remained closed for a number of hours
A man in his thirties lost his life in a fatal collision on the M40 on Easter Saturday evening. The accident happened on the southbound carriageway between Gaydon (junction 12) and Banbury (junction 11) just after 7pm.
The man was the only person in his car and he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been informed. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.
Warwickshire Police is asking for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has any information which could assist with their enquiries, to call them on 101 quoting incident number 260 of 16 April 2022.
The M40 was closed in both directions between Banbury and Gaydon whilst emergency services dealt with the situation. The northbound carriageway was partially reopened shortly before 9pm, but the entire southbound section between junction 15 and junction 11 remained closed for a number of hours.
The B4100 past Shotteswell, Hanwell and into Banbury by the North Oxfordshire Academy remained very busy through Saturday evening as drivers found an alternative route.
The Southbound carriageway was reopened at around 5am, although one lane remained closed awaiting resurfacing work.
