Parents thank coach company for addressing school bus drop-off concerns

The County Council didn’t see a problem, but the coach company changed the route to address the issue
A school bus drop off point has been changed so children no longer have to cross a busy main road to get to their homes.
Parents had expressed their concerns over the safety of where their children were getting off the Warriner school bus in Twyford – on the northbound A4260 Oxford Road.
Oxfordshire County Council indicated they were content with the arrangements, which they said had been in place for a number of years. They pointed to a pelican crossing a short walk away, which children needing to cross the road could use.
But motorists noted the danger of the situation. One driver, Pip Archer, wrote on social media: “I had to touch my brakes as I was passing this bus as a few kids were … crossing the road around the front of the bus on the blind side from me.
“[My] heart skipped a beat, I’ll be honest. I can see someone’s going to get a knock.”
Whilst the County Council oversees the school transport service the bus is provided by Pulhams Coaches. After speaking to Banbury FM the company felt it was important to address the parents’ concerns and devised a new route which drops children on the opposite, safer side of the main road.
The new route was implemented last Friday afternoon and all parents informed of the change.
Parents have expressed their gratitude to Pulhams Coaches for addressing their concerns. Tom and Sarah Jordon, who are parents of a year 7 student, said: “We are very grateful to Pulhams for acting so quickly to address our concerns”.
