Hospice hoping to find their version of Santa’s little helpers

24/09/2024

Around 100 volunteers are needed to help with a number of events

Much as Santa has his elves, Katharine House is looking to recruit their own little helpers over the next few months.

The Hospice needs around 100 people to come forward to help them run their events between now and the end of the year.

There are plenty of different roles needing to be filled, including people to put up advertising material, helpers setting up before events, volunteers to collect money and event marshals.

It’s a busy time up to the end of the year for the Katharine House fund raising team with key events like the Santa Fun Run, Lights of Love, Lantern Parade and Tractor Run all scheduled.   The hospice will also be collecting at local supermarkets and wrapping gifts in Castle Quay.

Anyone interested in signing up for one or more of the roles should contact getinvolved@khh.org.uk, visit the hospice website, or call 01295 81648.

These are the roles that need filling:

Santa Fun Run

The Santa Fun Run is one of our major fundraising events of the year when more than 250 Santas meet at Spiceball Park for a fun run, jog or walk for 1.5km or 5km.

  • On 4–6 November: the hospice is looking for drivers to assist with putting up advertising road banners in Banbury and the surrounding villages.
  • Sunday 1 December: the hospice has a wide range of volunteering roles to assist with the route set up and take down, as well as helping out during the run.

Schools Santa Run

With many hundreds of students running in their primary and secondary Schools Santa Runs during two weeks in December, volunteers are needed ahead of time to get hats sorted!

  • 11–13 November: hat sorters at the hospice and delivery drivers wanted!

Store collections

Christmas is always a valuable time to raise money for the hospice in local supermarkets.

  • 30 November and 7 and 21 December: 1.5 hour slots are available for collections in Banbury, Bicester and Brackley.

Lights of Love

As a part of the Lights of Love remembrance event, the hospice is giving supporters the opportunity to dedicate a star to a loved one, which will hang in St Mary’s Church, Banbury for Lights of Love.

  • 5 December: could you spare 2 hours to help hang up the stars?

Christmas wrap

For two days in December, Katharine House will have a stand at Castle Quay where volunteers will gift wrap presents in return for a donation to the hospice.

  • 2 December: help prepare the gift-wrapping materials ready for the event.
  • 6–7 December: Katharine house is looking for keen festive wrappers to fill 1.5 hour slots on each of these days. Could this be you?

Lantern Parade

The enchanting Lantern Parade winds its way from Castle Quay to Banbury Marketplace in the early evening.

  • 7 December: The hospice has kindly been given the opportunity to have ten volunteers with collection buckets walking alongside the parade between 5 and 7pm. Could you be one of them?

Tractor Run

This is Katharine House’s biggest volunteer ask of the year and a very important fundraiser for the hospice! Banbury’s premier Christmas event with its 100 tractors gloriously lit up as they make their way around Banbury and the surrounding villages.

  • 9 December: collection preparation at Katharine House.
  • 11-12 December: giving out collection resources at Katharine House.
  • 14 December: the BIG day! The hospice is looking for 50+ volunteers to steward or hold collection buckets at locations right around the route.
  • 16-20 December: cash counting volunteers to help at Katharine House.

Christmas Tree-cycle

The hospice’s Christmas Tree-cycle campaign which recycles Christmas trees as bark chippings. The trees are collected from various postcodes in north Oxfordshire and south Northamptonshire.

  • 9-10 January: The hospice is looking for drivers’ mates to help out on one or both of these days. The choice is yours!
