Two-day Canal Festival will celebrate Banbury’s waterway

Tooley’s Boatyard will be a focal point through the weekend
The growth and prosperity the Oxford Canal brought to Banbury will be celebrated during the annual two-day Canal Festival this weekend.
A diverse array of organisations will be part of the festivities, lining both sides of the waterway through the centre of town.
Visitors will be able to step on-board for a narrowboat tour and view a variety of historical canal boats.
Tooley’s Boatyard will be a focal point with an opportunity to learn more of the canal’s history and the way of life for those who lived and worked on the canal. The boatyard’s dry dock is one of the oldest in the world and will play host to Tooley’s Arts Festival, which began with an Open Evening yesterday (Thursday) and runs for 10 days.
The Mill Arts Centre will stage a programme of performances including Angie Mack’s Hula Hoop Show, the Parkour and rhythmic show HENGE from Motion House and The Black Eagles – a troupe of acrobats from Tanzania.
Castle Quay will be offering family fun with a face painter, glitter tattooist, and balloon twister. Centre Director Oliver Wren said: “The Canal Festival is a cherished event within our community, and this year promises an eclectic mix of entertainment throughout the weekend for everyone to enjoy. … Our entertainment is free, so be sure to stop by the centre and join in on the fun!”
Adderbury Morris Men will be performing in Bridge Street Community Gardens on Saturday.
The Canal Festival runs on both Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.
