SEND parents’ views sought on home to school transport

Both minibuses and taxis are used for around 1,700 children and young people
Parents and carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are being invited to share their views on home to school transport.
Oxfordshire County Council and Oxfordshire Parent Carers Forum have organised a listening event where people can share their experiences and help shape the future of home to school transport in Oxfordshire.
The County Council makes arrangements for around 1,700 children and young people (aged from four to 19) to be transported to and from school each day. Both minibuses and taxis are used.
The listening event will focus on what’s working well and what needs improving, along with how to enhance communication between parents, the council and taxi companies and the challenges that exist with current travel arrangements.
Councillor Kate Gregory, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for SEND Improvement, said: “We’re keen to hear the thoughts and experiences of parents and carers, so we can find ways to do things better.
“While it’s an important opportunity for views to be heard, issues raised will not be resolved on the day. However, I give my commitment that we will carefully consider everyone’s feedback.”
The meeting will be held online next Thursday (October 17) between 11am and 1pm and parents are asked to register their interest in attending.
