Proposal to convert former Parson’s Street sandwich shop into apartments
16/10/2024
The building has been empty for over ten years
Plans have been submitted to convert a Parson’s Street shop which has been empty for over ten years into four flats.
43 Parson’s Street, next to the Old Auctioneer, was last used as a sandwich shop. The Land Registry details the property as having been sold for £150,000 In February this year.
The building’s current owner, Suarez & Suarez Ltd, has appointed architects to prepare feasibility proposals to redevelop the property, which is described as in a poor state of repair.
Currently the property has the shop unit fronting Parson’s Street and 3-bedroom living accommodation above. The proposed plans show 4 one-bedroom apartments set over all 3 floors of the building, including an out building.
A covering design and access statement says: “Although the proposal would result in the loss of a town centre retail use, the loss is considered minimal (due to size and need) and given that the building has not been in use for a significant amount of time, the building is therefore not currently contributing to the town centre economy.
“This proposed conversion will provide a new lease of life which contributes to the town centre and provides further sustainable living accommodation within a developed area.”
The public have until November 14th to comment on the application.
