All smiles as Banbury Fair gets underway
17/10/2024
Thrill seekers can enjoy the fair until the end of Saturday
Banbury’s Michaelmas Fair got underway on Wednesday (October 16) with excited families heading to enjoy the thrills, sights, sounds and smells of the popular annual event.
The fair was opened by town mayor Councillor Mark Cherry and Councillor Dr Chukwudi Okeke, the Chairman of Cherwell District Council, with members of the Wilson family, who run the fair.
After the official opening, Councillors Cherry and Okeke toured the fair with a large golden key and every amusement they touched with the key gave lucky fun seekers a free ride.
The councillors interrupted their walk to accept the challenge of trying a couple of the rides, including the Miami Trip 3 and the bumper cars.
Councillor Cherry recalled visiting the fair as a boy with his mum and was thrilled to be able to allow the youngsters of 2024 a free go on some of the rides. He said: “It’s a big honour to represent Banbury and be here to choose the rides – that’s what its all about, giving the kids the opportunity to get on the rides.”
Councillor Okeke noted the history of the fair and its importance to Banbury. He encouraged everyone to come and sample what the fair has to offer: “It brings families together to come and have fun and enjoy themselves. This is what we need in Banbury, so come out and enjoy the fair. Come out!”
After last year’s successful trial Banbury Fair will again run for four days this year, concluding on Saturday evening.
