21/10/2024

The show will feature tunes from The King and I, Joseph, Six The Musical and Hamilton

The royalty of musical theatre will be celebrated later this week by an organisation which has over 60 years’ experience in bringing musical magic to Banbury audiences.

Banbury Operatic Society are in the final stages of rehearsals for “Kings and Queens” at the Wykham Theatre this Friday and Saturday.

The show promises a blend of classic and modern hits, showcasing some of the most iconic musical numbers from the likes of The King and I, Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Contemporary offerings from musicals such as The Prom, Six the Musical, and Hamilton will also feature.

Once the Banbury shows are complete the Society’s team will be heading to Banbury’s twin town of Hennef for a performance there on November 2.

Amanda Anderson is directing the show.   She said: “We will be staging iconic, royal-influenced numbers from classic musicals through to modern shows, and we can’t wait to share these with our local Banbury audiences before we head to Hennef, Germany, to perform the show for our twin town.

“Banbury Operatic Society has taken a number of shows to our friends in Hennef and we are delighted to have been invited back to perform our newest production. It’s such an incredible opportunity, and we’re very excited to share this unique production with our friends abroad.”

Alongside the music Kings and Queens promises a visual feast of royalty-inspired costumes and choreography to match the grandeur of the songs.

Performances of Kings and Queens take place on Friday and Saturday at 7.30pm with a matinee performance at 2.30pm on the Saturday.   Tickets are now on sale here.
