Public meeting so people can give their views on bill to allow assisted dying

An online public meeting has been organised by Banbury’s MP, Sean Woodcock, who wants to hear the views of as many people was possible on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.
Mr Woodcock has admitted he is struggling to decide which way to vote.
Details of the bill were published last Monday. It would legalise allowing terminally ill adults who are expected to die within six months the ability to request assistance to end their own life. Two independent doctors would have to be satisfied someone is eligible and has made their decision voluntarily and requests would also have to be approved by a High Court judge.
A large number of people have already contacted Mr Woodcock over the matter. To make sure there is plenty of opportunity for everyone’s views to be heard he will be holding an online public meeting this Saturday between 4 and 6pm.
Mr Woodcock said: “Many local people have contacted me about this Private Member’s legislation, more than any other piece of legislation since I was elected in July. I have set up this meeting to give residents from across the Constituency the chance to speak on their views and make their voices heard in advance of the vote.
“If the law is to change, we must get this legislation right, and I will be listening intently to contributions made at this meeting. I look forward to hearing your views on November 29th.”
