Wood burner ash causes fire at Bath Road property
22/11/2024
Hot embers had been disposed of in a wheelie bin
A warning has been issued for people to exercise caution when disposing of ash from wood burners and fires after a bin fire spread to a shed and fence at a Banbury home.
A crew from Banbury Fire Station was called to the property in Bath Road at 10.12am on Thursday. Hot embers from a log burner had been disposed of in a wheelie bin. This had caught fire and then spread to the adjacent fence and shed.
The crew used high pressures hose reels to extinguish the fire and prevent further spread and damage to property.
A spokesperson for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said: “As the colder months approach and the use of log burners increases, we urge everyone to exercise caution when disposing of ash. Please ensure that ash is completely cool before its disposal to prevent similar incidents.
“Your vigilance can help reduce the risk of fire and protect both property and lives during the winter season.”
