Hospice overcomes obstacles so Santas can Fun Run!
02/12/2024
It was all smiles on a grey and drizzly December morning
Grey skies, drizzle and a last minute change of venue didn’t put off around 300 people who took part in Katharine House Hospice’s Santa Fun Run on Sunday morning.
It was all smiles as the runners donned their Santa suits and completed either 1.5km or 5km to raise vital funds for the Adderbury based hospice.
Flooding in Spiceball Park left the Katharine House team with less than a week to find a new location. The North Oxfordshire Academy saved the day, offering the use of their running track.
Each runner raised money for the hospice through sponsorship and their entry fee. Additionally donations were received from a number of local companies, including house builders Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes, Hayfield Homes and Persimmon.
Katharine House Chief Executive Emma Radley described the atmosphere at the Fun Run: “Its lovely! Despite the freezing cold and the rain everybody is cheerful. We’ve got a Christmas tree and a gingerbread man dancing, everyone’s in their Santa suits – its fantastic!”
It costs more than £5.3m a year to run Katharine House – which equates to £14,539 per day. Emma understands times are tight for people at present and is very grateful they do what they can to help.
She said: “Its really tough at the moment. Although we’ve got 300 runners here today we know that any time anyone does anything these days they raise slightly less than they would have done a few years before.
“We completely understand because everyone is the same – everyone has a bit less to give, but we’re just so grateful to everyone that does.”
Anyone wanting to make a donation to the Katharine House Hospice can do so here.
