Community arts project lifts festive spirits in Banbury
11/12/2024
Structures have been installed at Banbury Cross and the Warwick Road entrance to People’s Park
Visitors and local people admiring Banbury Cross this Christmas can enjoy the festive sparkle of a community arts project.
Over 200 people of all ages joined local textile artist Anne-Marie Cadman at community workshops in Castle Quay. Additional sessions were held at Orinoco, The Hill and Hanwell Fields Community Centre, along with Banbury MIND and the Sunrise Multicultural Project.
Three hobby horse frames were given a new lease of life as reindeer and an orb and sceptre structure also created.
Three of the structures have been installed at Banbury Cross and a fourth at the Warwick Road entrance to People’s Park.
Councillor Rob Pattenden, Portfolio Holder for Healthy Communities, said: “I want to say a massive thank you to all our residents and community groups that have given their time and activated their creative skills to create four beautiful structures that bring a wonderful festive feeling to the town centre.
“It has been brilliant to see everyone from all walks of life come together to bring a bit of Christmas magic to Banbury Cross and People’s Park. This project highlights how important arts programmes are for giving people the opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and reinvigorate their mental wellbeing.”
