They made a failed attempt to steal a cash machine

Ram-raiders have attempted to steal a cash machine from Marks and Spencer at the Banbury Gateway retail park.

Three people gained entry to the M&S Food Hall at around 2.15am this morning (January 8).   They rammed the front doors with a vehicle and attempted to drag out the cash machine.

Following the failed attempt they made off in an orange vehicle, believed to be a Toyota Hilux.

Police were alerted to the incident after the intruders set off the store’s alarms. 

Investigating officer Detective Constable Sam Buzzard of the Banbury Priority Crime Team, said: “I am appealing to anybody who may have witnessed this incident to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.

“I would be particularly keen to hear from anybody who was driving in the area between around 2.15am and 2.30am and has captured any footage on their dash-cams which may assist this investigation to please contact us.

Despite damage to the frontage of the store, it is open as normal today.
