Sean Woodcock’s expenses hit the headlines in a national newspaper
Banbury’s MP Sean Woodcock has featured in a national newspaper article on MPs expenses after he submitted claims for second home furnishings which were rejected by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA).
Mr Woodcock said he had been mistakenly advised by a colleague about what type of accommodation costs could be claimed. No money from the public purse had been paid and he covered the bills himself.
The Daily Mail reported that Mr Woodcock claimed for two duvets, a pair of pillows and a set of brushed cotton bed sheets from Marks & Spencer. He also bought four towels and a tube of magnolia shower cream. The two claims, submitted last October, totalled £216.50.
In a statement to Banbury FM Mr Woodcock said: “As a new MP, I took advice from a colleague after buying the bedding. I submitted a claim as advised, and it was rejected.
“No money from the public purse was paid.
“I hope my constituents will be able to understand the difference between a genuine mistake and fraudulent behaviour.”
