Thames Valley Police made the call so resources aren’t tied up during the busy summer period

This year’s Emergency Services Day has been cancelled in an attempt to ease the workload of Thames Valley Police staff during what’s been described as “an extremely busy period for all emergency services”.

A spokesperson for Banbury Town Council said the decision was taken in the best interests of all the emergency services teams who will now be able to redirect the time and resources required for events such as Emergency Services Day, to their duties throughout the summer period.

The annual event, which is organised by Banbury Town Council and Thames Valley Police, was due to be held in Spiceball Park on the August 30.

Its understood the call to cancel the event came from the police.

At last year’s Emergency Services Day representatives from Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance Service and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were amongst those in attendance.

Banbury Town Council is confident the event will return in the future.
