Banbury’s MP has added his support to calls for Thames Water to agree to a number of moves aimed at improving the service they provide their customers.

Representatives from the beleaguered company met with MPs on Friday and were given a letter from Yuan Yang – the Member of Parliament for Earley and Woodley – which was co-signed by 27 MPs, including Sean Woodcock.

The group is calling on Thames Water to claw back £2.5m of bonuses paid to senior executives in April, whilst also scrapping plans for further payments in December, instead reinvesting the money into the water infrastructure.

The MPs also called on Thames Water to drop their complaint to Ofwat requesting leniency over sewage fines and urged them to commit meeting MPs in parliament regarding issues in their areas.

Mr Woodcock said: “In Banbury and Chipping Norton I’ve heard from families dealing with problems that Thames Water have failed to resolve – flooding, sewage overflows, water outages, and more.   Others have raised concerns about pollution in the Cherwell and the Evenlode , where the company have been pumping sewage.

“My constituents are being asked to foot the bill for Thames Water’s failures, with the average bill going up by 31% this year, all while the company pays out millions to executives.

“I joined Labour colleagues in signing this letter because Thames Water needs to be held to account for their persistent failings. My constituents deserve answers to their concerns, and I hope that increased scrutiny on the company from Parliament will help to get them.”
