The government is funding a pilot programme to transform youth services
A pilot Local Youth Transformation programme must include the most deprived parts of Banbury.
That’s the call from MP Sean Woodcock. He, and Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds, have written to the leader of Oxfordshire County Council following the news that the council has been chosen as one of 12 ‘Pathfinder’ local authorities to learn and develop the programme.
They want to ensure there is a focus on areas of deprivation in Banbury and Oxford.
The Local Youth Transformation Pilot is part of an £88m package of proposals to transform youth services across England and Wales. The aim is to allow youth clubs and schools to offer more opportunities for young people to get active and connect with others, while building their confidence and broadening their horizons.
£8 million has been made available for the pilot.
In their letter the Councillor Liz Leffman Ms Dodds and Mr Woodcock wrote: “We represent seven of the ten wards with the highest levels of deprivation in Oxfordshire: Barton & Sandhills, Banbury Cross & Neithrop, Banbury Grimsbury & Hightown, Banbury Ruscote, Blackbird Leys, Littlemore and Rose Hill & Iffley.
“These are exactly the kind of areas this investment is designed to help, and we ask that any plan Oxfordshire County Council proposes include these wards.”
