The deputy prime minister and housing secretary stepped down this morning

Banbury’s MP has described the resignation of Angela Rayner as a “big blow” but noted the Prime Minister had kept his promise of maintaining high standards in government.

The deputy prime minister and housing secretary stepped down after admitting she did not pay enough stamp duty on her second home.

She has also quit as deputy leader of the Labour Party.

Following the announcement Sean Woodcock told Banbury FM: “It is obviously a situation I would rather we weren’t in.

“The Prime Minister said there would be high standards and he has kept his promise.

“Losing Angela is a big blow but we must continue our work to improve the lives of our constituents.”
