Major water main burst leads to flooding and school closures

The flow was brought under control and supplies rerouted by early afternoon
A burst water main in Banbury town centre has been causing havoc for local residents and businesses.
Water erupted from beneath a parking space at the top end of the North Bar car park, close to 3 Flavours restaurant late this morning.
Thames Water confirmed shortly after lunch they had brought the flow under control with a fleet of their vehicles in the area to deal with the problem.
Banbury FM understands there are two main water feeds under the road in this location.
The burst may be causing low water pressure or a temporary loss of supply to properties in the area.
A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “Our team has already brought the flow under control, and a specialist repair crew is on the way. Once on site, they’ll dig down to the damaged section and assess the best way to complete the repair safely.

“In the meantime, we’ve rerouted water through other parts of the network to restore supply. Your water should be back on shortly, though it may take a couple of hours for pressure to return to normal, depending on your location.”
A further update is expected at 5pm.
Some local schools had to close at short notice due to the loss of a water supply, with BGN and Hanwell Fields Community School affected.
Meanwhile properties in the area were affected by flood water from the burst, including the Three Pigeons pub.
