Banbury’s MP backs Bridget Phillipson for Deputy Leader role

Sean Woodcock has been impressed with her support and willingness to listen

In the race to be the new Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Bridget Phillipson has received the backing of Banbury’s MP, Sean Woodcock.

Mrs Phillipson is currently the Secretary of State for Education, a role she has held since July 2024.   She announced she would be standing for the role of Deputy Leader on Tuesday.

In announcing his support for Mrs Phillipson, Mr Woodcock said: “As a new MP, I’ve been impressed with her support to me and willingness to listen to concerns I’ve raised.

“Her work is delivering for millions of school kids, and she understands what we need to do to recover from 14 years of Tory decline.”

Mrs Phillipson said: “As a proud working-class woman from the North East, I have come from a tough council street all the way to the Cabinet.

“I will be a strong voice to unite our Party, take the fight to Reform, and deliver for our country.”
