The three-day fair is run by Wilson’s amusements
Brackley’s annual charter fair got underway yesterday with Town Mayor, Councillor Bernie Tiller, one of the first to try the rides.
Before stepping on board the brand new attraction “Venom” Councillor Tiller received a generous donation towards the Mayor’s Charity, B Yourself, from fair owner Tommy Wilson.
Councillor Tiller said: “I was told that the fair would donate a little bit of money and [Tommy] has just given me a cheque – £250 for the B Yourself charity. That is brilliant – it’s wonderful. It’s going to help an awful lot.”
He – alongside Banbury FM’s Andy Green – then experienced the latest thrill-seekers addition to the Wilson’s Funfair range, being spun and swung at high speed to heights above the Market Place buildings.

Brackley was granted a Charter Fair and Charter Market by Royal Assent in 1260.
Tommy Wilson is the latest member of his family to bring the fair to town. He said: “I am at least the fourth generation to come here from my family and there’s two generations to follow me.
“Its always good to come to Brackley. There’s a lot of family history here and during the lockdown Brackley were the first council to contact us and invite us back into the town when restrictions were lifted, so we’ve good connections in Brackley.”
The fair has been set up in the High Street and Market Place, just outside the Town Hall, with rides and attractions for all ages.
Councillor Tiller said: “The message to the people of Brackley is come on down. If you don’t come down, you’re missing a wonderful opportunity just to come out and have a bit of fun!”
The fair opens again today at 5pm and at 1.30pm on Saturday lunchtime.
