Zebra Crossing should improve safety for Bretch Hill residents

People heading to local shops, the Sunshine Centre and Orchard Fields School will all benefit
The installation of a new zebra crossing close to the shops and community facilities on Bretch Hill has taken a step forward. The move should improve road safety for local residents.
Councillors Mark Cherry and Amanda Watkins have been pushing to deliver safe crossing improvements by the Bradley Arcade shops, close to both the Sunshine Centre and Orchard Fields School.
Back in January they met with Dawn Shilston, the headteacher at Orchard Fields, at the point where they believed work needed to be completed to make crossing the road safer.
A plan of work has now been agreed, which will see the existing raised hump resurfaced and re-lined, with Vehicle Activated Signs installed. “Keep Clear” road markings will be placed along Bradley Arcade and Edinburgh Road with no parking allowed, to allow better vision for pedestrians crossing the road.
Councillor Cherry welcomed the news: “The new zebra crossing is vital so we’ve worked hard to move forward with it. It’s taken some persistence but I’m pleased we’ve made real progress. I’d like to thank the Oxfordshire County Council Highways Team for their work on this important issue.”
Cllr Amanda Watkins is the Local Authority Governor at Orchard Fields School. She added: “We really do need a safe crossing point on this busy stretch of Bretch Hill, as it is close to a local primary school and the Sunshine Centre community hub as well as the shops.
“It would be a huge improvement in road safety for all the families who need to cross here, and so we are hopeful that it will be agreed.”
