Job losses at Fired Earth as company enters Administration

A sales of the business’ assets is possible but the deal doesn’t include staff
An Adderbury based company which grew over forty years to having 30 showrooms across the country, has entered Administration with 133 people being made redundant.
Fired Earth began selling terracotta floor tiles from a farm site home in 1983.
Dane O’Hara and Alex Cadwallader of London based Leonard Curtis were appointed Joint Administrators on October 31.
They were first approached in September to undertake an initial review of the business and explore potential options. They found it was incapable of being restructured in its current form and the decision was made to seek a buyer.
Whilst negotiations on a sale of the business’ assets continue the deal does not include staff.
Mr O’Hara said: “Fired Earth has been loss making for some time. In the last three years the company has been supported by its shareholder via substantial working capital loans, while efforts were made to return the business to profitability.
“Unfortunately, the company has continued to incur trading losses, and its investor was not prepared to provide further funding to the business in the absence of a viable turnaround strategy.”
Fired Earth stores have all now closed, but the head office and warehouse here will stay open for a period of time to fulfil outstanding customer orders.
Anyone with an order which is yet to be fulfilled will be contacted by representatives of the Fired Earth team.
