A spotlight has been on the importance of community with students engaging in acts of service
Students from Banbury and Bicester College provided residents from a Banbury retirement complex with an afternoon of tea and beauty treatments on Tuesday. It was part of the college’s Community Service Week.
A number of people from Park Gardens Retirement Village, which is close to People’s Park, gathered at the college where they enjoyed tea, cake and mince pies served by students. They were then treated to hand massages and nail treatments before getting creative by painting festive decorations and clay rocks for their gardens.
The afternoon concluded with Christmas carols sung by the college’s High Needs learners.
The event was hosted by MindGreen, Activate Learning’s charitable fund dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of students and staff across its group of colleges. Through this week they have cast a spotlight on the importance of community with students engaging in acts of service.
Amanda Cherry, Head of Student Experience at Banbury and Bicester College, said: “It was brilliant to welcome residents from Park Gardens Retirement Village to Banbury and Bicester College.
“It was inspiring to see our students connecting with local people with such warmth and enthusiasm. Events like this serve as a powerful way to give back to the community.”
