Brackley people to speak directly with decision makers over parking charge plan
13/01/2026

The meeting follows calls from the Mayor not to adopt a one-size-fits-all policy
Brackley’s Town Mayor is calling on West Northamptonshire Council to pause its plans to implement parking charges in Brackley.
Councillor Bernie Tiller says that removing free parking risks less people heading into the town, which could result in businesses being forced to close.
The introduction of paid parking in Brackley, in the form of both a long stay car park and on street pay and display, is part of the council’s plans to bring in revenue to balance the books next financial year. A consultation on the budget is currently underway.
Councillor Tiller says that on weekdays around 80 percent of Brackley town centre’s visitors are from outside the town. Free parking has been the key motivator encouraging people to visit since the ring road opened, which resulted in incidental visits declining. He feels the council should adopt a market town specific approach, rather than a uniform policy for the whole area.
In response West Northamptonshire Council has organised an online meeting this evening where local people can give their views on the issue, speak directly to the decision making councillors and officers, and find out more about the budget process.
The meeting starts at 6.30pm and can be accessed here.
Brackley Town Council is encouraging people to join the meeting. A spokesperson said: “We would like to express our gratitude to West Northamptonshire Council for hosting this session, which, as far as we are aware, is the first of its kind, directly connecting council members and staff with residents outside of an official council meeting to share information and opinions on proposed budget changes.
“This is a unique opportunity to express your thoughts on the changes that affect our day to day lives.”
