Brackley Town’s manager Gavin Cowan has resigned.

He’s accepted a role as first team coach at Shrewsbury Town.   Yesterday they sacked Michael Appleton – the former Oxford United manager – as they battle to avoid relegation in League 2.

Cowan played for Shrewsbury as a defender between March 2005 and January 2007.

His assistant manager Jamie Haynes, who’s a former Shrewsbury youth team player, has gone with him.

Gavin Cowen has spent three successful seasons at Brackley Town, leading the team into the National League for the first time, where they currently sit in 15th place.

Chairman Matt Wise said, “We thank Gavin for his commitment and work at the club and wish him well in his next endeavour. The priority at the club now is to recruit a new manager.

“A unity and a togetherness have always been strengths at our club. I urge all supporters to come together and to get behind the team in these coming weeks.”
