Training exercises are being conducted “in light of current real-world events”
The impact of the American and Israeli military operation in Iran over the weekend, and Iran’s subsequent response, has led to precautionary steps being taken to protect personnel and facilities at RAF Croughton.
The base, which is used as a major United States Air Force communications hub, has warned that “in light of current real-world events” there will be an increased security presence, including personnel carrying weapons.
People living nearby are also likely to see training exercises taking place, which will include the use of the base’s “Giant Voice” tannoy system to broadcast emergency messages.
The changes are noted as temporary and in force from today.
A spokesperson said: “We want to reassure you that these are training exercises and there is no immediate threat to the base or surrounding community. These measures are part of drills designed to ensure readiness and reflect the current global situation.”
RAF Croughton is operated by the 422nd Air Base Group. It serves as a critical node in U.S. military communications, processing about a third of all traffic in Europe.
