Twelve teams took part this year
Local businesses and schools have raised £34,045 for the Katharine House Hospice in the latest Accumulator Challenge.
It’s the ninth year the hospice has organised the fun fund-raiser, which sees teams given a £50 seed fund to invest and generate as much money as possible. It ran between October last year and this February.
Twelve teams took part. They attended an awards ceremony to celebrate their achievements last night.
Barton Hughes Transport won the award for the most funds raised by a business, having generated £4,806.
Three awards were handed to teachers and students at Hanwell Fields Community School for Creativity, Extreme Challenge and Most Funds Raised by a School. Kineton High School took home the Community Award.
A number of new teams took part in the Accumulator Challenge this time. Amongst them CPB UK won the Sustainability Award and Brackley Care Home the Best Newcomer Award.
The teams raised money through a variety of endeavours including quiz nights, Christmas craft fairs, cake sales and challenges such as a 24-hour netball tournament, 5 marathons in 5 days and a 24-hour sports day.
Sue Blank, Corporate Engagement Officer at Katharine House Hospice, said: “We are so grateful to all the teams taking part and have been blown away by their creative fundraising efforts during the challenge. It was wonderful to be able to celebrate their achievements at our awards ceremony.
“It costs over £5.9 million a year to run every element of Katharine House Hospice, so we rely on the generosity of our local community. Over the 9 years, the Accumulator Challenge has raised over £210,000, enabling us to continue providing our vital services at the hospice and out in the community.”
