More cash available to help reduce impact of flooding

“When it comes to knowing what is needed to tackle flooding in a particular area, local communities are often the experts”

Another round of grants of up to £25,000 are being made available to help reduce the impact of flooding.

Oxfordshire County Council is offering the funding for a third consecutive year, supporting locally led projects to improve flood resilience. The scheme is open to parish, town, district and city councils, as well as flood groups and catchment partnerships, for work taking place between now and next March 2027.

Last year, more than 80 applications were received, with over £500,000 awarded to nearly 40 projects. Funded work included drainage improvements, ditch clearance, natural flood management schemes and flood monitoring equipment.

Councillor Judy Roberts, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Place, Environment and Climate Action, said: “When it comes to knowing what is needed to tackle flooding in a particular area, local communities are often the experts. Sadly, due to climate change and the increase in instances of extreme weather, flooding is now affecting more people and more severely than ever.”

Groups have until May 4 to submit an expression of interest to [email protected], with successful applicants expected to be confirmed by the end of May.
