He’s on the radar of team England and GB Boxing

18-year-old Banbury boxer Chris Taylor is now officially one of the top four under 65kg boxers in the country.

He bowed out of the men’s Elite National Amateur Championships yesterday with a bronze medal after losing out to Sandygate opponent James Smith.

In his semi-final, at Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham, Chris was dominant in the first round on the judges scorecard – something which his opponent knew, coming our strong in the second round and forcing Chris to box off the back foot.

Banbury Boxing Club coach, Ben Malcher, said: “It wasn’t quite the fairytale ending for Chris in this tournament, but he has certainly made his mark as an Elite competitor on a national stage in his first season as a senior.

“During this NAC campaign Chris has been crowned the Home Counties Regional Champion, beat the England number 2 seed and shows he belongs at this level, he’s on the radar of team England and GB Boxing which is Chris’s ultimate goal.”
