Trinity College want to build on land opposite the scheme which will fill the gap between Banbury and Hanwell
The edge of Banbury could be extended even further along the Warwick Road if a planning application by an Oxford College is given the go-ahead.
Trinity College has submitted an outline planning application for up to 200 new houses on a farm field to the west of the B4100, opposite the Vistry site which will fill the gap between Banbury and Hanwell. That was approved by the Planning Inspector on appeal, despite local objections.
The application by Trinity College proposes that around 30 percent of the properties on its site would be designated as affordable housing.
According to the Design and Access Statement, the scheme would create “a sustainable, well connected neighbourhood that integrates seamlessly with Banbury forming a logical extension to the settlement edge.”
Public open space is included in the plan, along with new pedestrian and cycle links connecting to surrounding areas and existing services. Access to the development would be taken from the Warwick Road.
Developers say the scheme will follow a “landscape-led” approach, retaining existing trees and hedgerows while providing significant green space aimed at supporting wildlife, recreation, and residents’ wellbeing.
The public have until May 15 to comment on the application, with a decision due at the end of June.
