SEND improvements lead to lifting of improvement notice

The Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson, has written to service partners

The government has lifted an improvement notice for the services for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Oxfordshire.

Local SEND services are provided by Oxfordshire’s Local Area Partnership, comprising Oxfordshire County Council and a number of NHS bodies.

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission found “widespread systemic failings” in the provision during a visit in July 2023.

A monitoring inspection last year found that “effective action” had been taken to make improvements.   Now, the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson has now written to the partners recognising the ongoing improvements in SEND services.

She noted that the partnership had strengthened how the views of children and young people with SEND, as well as parents and carers, are gathered and used in strategic planning.

Significant progress was also noted in reducing waiting times for critical support.
