Three weekly general waste collection to be confirmed next week

Brackley and the surrounding villages will see the change next spring
General waste collections in Brackley and the surrounding villages are set to change from fortnightly to every third week by the spring of next year.
West Northamptonshire Council’s Cabinet will meet next week to discuss standardising refuse collections across the authority’s area, as existing waste collection contracts come to an end.
The councillor in charge of waste collections believes the move won’t cause issues for residents as many noted in a consultation their bins were not full on collection day.
Currently homes in the old South Northamptonshire area have their food waste collected weekly and recycling, garden waste and general waste collected fortnightly.
However, in the old Daventry area general waste is only collected every third week. The Cabinet is being recommended to move all parts of the area to the same system, with general waste collected every third week.
No changes will be made to other collections.
The Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Waste, Councillor Nigel Stansfield, said: “In a Resources and Waste Strategy consultation carried out in recent years, most residents told the Council that their general waste bin was not full on collection day.
“This shows that we are in a good position to harmonise how often general waste is collected across West Northamptonshire.
“This change will help us deliver an efficient and high-performing service that makes the most of the recycling opportunities already available.”
In addition, from next year the Council will increase the types of materials that can be recycled at home, which its hoped will create more room in the general waste bin.
