Sean Woodcock takes on the role as the Prime Minister fights for his survival
Banbury’s MP has been appointed as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Cabinet Office. Sean Woodcock agreed to take on the role yesterday (Monday) as Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer moved to sure up his premiership.
Mr Woodcock has criticised attempts by others to unseat the Prime Minister. Following last week’s disastrous local election results for Labour, MP Catherine West called for a managed exit for the beleaguered PM and wrote to fellow MPs seeking their opinions.
In response Mr Woodcock told her: “I think this is a wholly unserious way of going about this.
“While I too had disappointing results in my seat and would describe myself as far from happy at where we find ourselves, this is not how the government of a major economy and nuclear power should be decided.”
He concluded telling Ms West “please stop”.
Mr Woodcock replaces Naushabah Khan MP, who resigned yesterday.
Parliamentary Private Secretaries support ministers, help manage parliamentary business, and explain government policy to backbenchers. It is often a stepping stone to a ministerial career.
