Chancellor hears how regeneration of Banbury could contribute to economic growth
14/05/2026

MP Sean Woodcock highlighted the town’s strong potential as a destination for visitors and investment
The regeneration of Banbury and how this can contribute to the country’s economic growth was the focus of a meeting between Banbury’s MP and the Chancellor of the Exchequer earlier today.
Sean Woodcock spent time with Rachel Reeves at 11 Downing Street sharing his ideas, with the aim of bringing jobs, growth and prosperity to our town.
The visit came on the day Mrs Reeves urged caution to those considering a Labour leadership challenge, as the latest figures showed unexpected growth in the UK economy, up by 0.3 per cent in March and 0.6 per cent in the first quarter of 2026.
During the meeting Mr Woodcock highlighted Banbury’s strong potential as a destination for visitors and investment, along with the opportunities that regeneration could bring for local businesses and residents.
Following the meeting he said: “Today I met with the Chancellor of the Exchequer to discuss how supporting the regeneration of Banbury can contribute to economic growth. Banbury has real potential as a visitor destination and I am pleased to have had the chance to pitch my ideas.”
