Brackley’s new Town Mayor takes on the chains of office

Councillor Paul Wiltshire took over at the weekend’s Mayor Making ceremony
Brackley has a new Town Mayor. Councillor Paul Wiltshire took over from Councillor Don Thompson at the annual Mayor Making Ceremony in Brackley Town Hall on Saturday lunchtime.
One of Councillor Wiltshire’s first duties after taking on the chains of office was to attend yesterday’s induction of Mat Hussein as new minister of Brackley Baptist Church.
The role of mayor is something that Councillor Wiltshire should be familiar with – his wife, fellow Councillor Elaine Wiltshire, was herself Mayor a few years ago. Councillor Mrs Wiltshire will be her husband’s Consort.
The new deputy mayor for the town is Councillor Sue Sharps.
During Saturday’s Mayor Making event, outgoing Town Mayor Councillor Don Thompson handed £3,400 to two local charities he has supported through his year in office. Representatives from South Northants Youth Engagement and Mental Health Friends were awarded the funds accrued at Councillor Thompson’s fundraising events through the year.
During his mayoral year, Councillor Wiltshire will be raising money for Medical Detection Dogs and The Air Ambulance Service.
Councillor Wiltshire said: “As the elected Mayor of Brackley I look forward to leading the council in its continuing service to the people of Brackley.
“Elaine and I hope to meet many residents and visitors during our year of office and raise funds for my chosen charities of the air ambulance for the East Midlands and Medical Detection Dogs”.
