The road at Middleton Cheney was closed for several hours on Monday evening

The A422 was closed for a number of hours last night after a heavy goods vehicle tipped over on the roundabout by the Middleton Cheney exit.   The lorry was carrying chickens.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 6.20pm.   When they arrived they found a lorry on its side.   The driver had escaped the vehicle and was treated by paramedics for the minor injuries he had sustained.

As well as the main A422, the B4525 Millers Lane was also closed towards the A422 roundabout due to a large spillage of diesel and oil.

Fire crews from Brackley and Banbury attended the incident, alongside Northamptonshire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service.

To help with recovery of the vehicle Brackley firefighters had to make cuts into the lorry and worked to isolate any fuel spillages.

The road remained closed for more than four hours whilst the recovery and clean-up operations were completed.
